Richard Satava, master glassblower, was introduced to glassblowing in 1969, while attending high school in Pacifica, California. He subsequently studied Art and glassblowing at the College of San Mateo and CSU: Chico, and eventually opened Satava Art Glass Studio in 1977.
In the middle 1990’s Mr. Satava visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium and became mesmerized by their exhibit of real Jellyfish. As he stood in front of the display, he was struck with a truly great idea. “Wow! What gorgeous creatures! They would be perfect to do in glass.”
However, the road from inspiration to execution was a long one. He soon realized he had to make his own colors, and to this day, uses blends of various metal oxides such as silver, cobalt, selenium, cadmium, and others. In all, it took nearly 5 years before he had “perfected” his idea and was able to make these incredible jellyfish.
Art for Wildlife Galleries is proud to represent the work of Mr. Satava. We always have on hand a broad selection of his amazing Jellyfish in all price ranges: from $250 and up. Some of the larger pieces now in the Gallery are below.
