Glenn
grew up on the beaches of Southern California. He moved to Hawaii in 1969,
and it was there he met a Japenese Hawaiian woodcarver, "Paul of Hawaii."
Glenn was fascinated by his unique talent, to such an extent, that he
became Paul's apprentice. This apprenticeship began with the development
of Glenn's own tools and basic skills to work with wood sculpture. Then,
under the Master carver's direction, they carved magnificent statues and
native Hawaiian woodcarvings that are seen throughout the Islands. Glenn
learned so much from his master, but is now a seasoned artist in his own
right. He resides in Southern Oregon, at the mouth of the Rouge River.
His skills, imagination, and passion have developed into his own unique
style and vision. He has combined his love for the Pacific Coast, and
its shorebirds and marine life, to create these hand carved original Driftwood
Sculptures. Each Driftwood sculpture is unique - no two could ever be
exactly the same. Glenn envisions the shape of each piece, depending on
how he can work with the wood's natural beauty and shape. His style is
simple and not ornate. He works to compliment and highlight the wood's
own special characteristics. Port Orford Cedar, Myrtle, Alder, Red Cedar,
Maple, Douglas Fir, and Mardone - are the main examples of medium which
Glenn uses to create his artwork. Each finished work is signed by Glenn,
numbered, and labeled with the type of wood of which it is made. |
